AVIATION TRENDS IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM

by Ruwantissa I.R. Abeyratne

Abstract

This book addresses comprehensively the commercial and liability issues following commercial aviation into the new millennium. It comprises three chapters: Chapter one on commercial issues -- which discusses three major areas of commercial strategy involving strategic alliances of air lines, aircraft leasing, and the use of slot allocation and airport congestion; the use of the information highway in such areas as computer reservation systems, ticket auctions and copyright including aspects of intellectual property, and automation of travel documents and the carriage of inadmissible passengers, and emissions trading in Environmental Protection; Chapter Two on Passenger and Crew Liability Issues addressing such contemporary issues as the liability of airlines for injury caused by turbulence and the spread of disease in the aircraft cabin, mental injury, negligence of the carrier and damage caused by unruly passengers (on which there is an active ICAO Study Group working in 1999-2001) and the kidnapping of minor children by air; and Chapter three -- Conclusion, which offers a well rounded discussion on where aviation is headed in the first few years of the new millennium.

The book will be about 300 printed pages long.
